I had the honor of participating in the 17th edition of the Night of the Stars 2025 at Ciudad Universitaria (CU), an extraordinary event that broke attendance records with over 90,000 visitors at Las Islas. This year’s edition was a special tribute to the renowned university scientist Julieta Fierro Gossman, a pioneer of scientific outreach in Mexico.
As part of UNAM’s commitment to space exploration and scientific education, this massive event brought together the community across 118 venues nationwide. At CU alone, we set up 270 telescopes, 63 thematic tents featuring 398 conferences, 882 workshops, interactive games, demonstrations, experiments, and two planetariums with 18 projections each.
This edition was dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the founding of Tenochtitlan, the 10-year anniversary of the Gamma Ray Astronomical Observatory in Mexico, and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology—celebrating 100 years since the foundational ideas of quantum mechanics were developed.
The Night of the Stars is not only Mexico’s most important astronomy outreach event but also one of the world’s largest, having reached over four million visitors throughout its history. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of this celebration of science, bringing the wonders of the universe closer to people of all ages and backgrounds. The event was made possible by 750 dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to share their passion for astronomy with the public.
